Personal attention
A DCFS referral in Beverly Hills rarely arrives alone. It comes attached to a divorce, a business, a professional license, a household staff, or a name that cannot appear in a court file without consequences. ALL Trial Lawyers defends Beverly Hills parents from two offices on Wilshire Boulevard, through investigations, safety plans, removals, and every hearing at the Edmund D. Edelman Children's Court.

Beverly Hills referrals are typically assigned to the DCFS West Los Angeles Regional Office. If the department believes a child is at risk, it can detain the child, file a Welfare and Institutions Code § 300 petition, and open a case at the Edmund D. Edelman Children's Court in Monterey Park, the same court that hears every dependency case in the county. Our firm represents Beverly Hills parents from the first social worker contact through the last hearing, with offices at 9465 Wilshire Blvd and 8383 Wilshire Blvd. Call (866) 811-4255 for a free, confidential consultation.
Dependency law does not care about a ZIP code, but the collateral consequences of a DCFS case scale with what a family has to lose: a professional license, a public reputation, a business with partners, a custody judgment worth litigating over. The defense has to account for all of it.
A DCFS referral made during a Beverly Hills divorce can do in one detention hearing what the family court refused to do in a year: change placement and impose supervised visitation. Once a petition is filed, the dependency court controls custody under § 304. We coordinate with your family law counsel from the first day.
Family Code § 3027.1 remedies for knowingly false reports
Dependency files are confidential, but a § 300 petition, a sustained finding, or a Child Abuse Central Index listing follows a parent into licensing boards, background checks, and future custody disputes. Closing the referral as unfounded, before a petition exists, is the whole strategy.
Penal Code § 11170 CACI grievance defense
Cedars-Sinai's emergency department and child protection team, Beverly Hills Unified and the Westside independent schools, therapists retained during a divorce, and Beverly Hills Police after a domestic call. Household staff are not mandated reporters, but they are interviewed, and they talk.
Mandated reporters, Penal Code § 11165.7
Injury cases turn on medical experts; substance cases on toxicology; false allegation cases on forensic interview analysis. We retain the pediatric radiologists, hematologists, and psychologists whose letters change a social worker's closing decision and a judge's detention finding.
Independent expert review at the investigation stage
Most Beverly Hills referrals can be closed before a Welfare and Institutions Code § 300 petition is ever filed. When they cannot, we litigate every stage at the Edmund D. Edelman Children's Court in Monterey Park, the single dependency court for all of Los Angeles County.
Home visits, school interviews, safety plans, and the 30-day closing decision. We get between you and the department before the referral narrative is written.
Investigation stage
Petition within 48 hours, hearing by the next judicial day (§§ 313, 315). We prepare the alternative-to-detention plan and the relative who can take placement under § 361.3.
Days after removal
Cross-examining the social worker, excluding hearsay, and retaining medical and forensic experts to answer the § 300 allegations on a preponderance standard.
The trial of the case
Pushing back on excessive services, protecting visitation, and getting children home under family maintenance rather than out under reunification.
Where the case plan is set
Six-, twelve-, and eighteen-month reviews, contested § 366.26 hearings, and modification petitions when circumstances change.
The long game
Challenging a Child Abuse Central Index listing under Penal Code § 11170 before it reaches a licensing board or an employer.
Professional consequences
Publicity is the enemy of a good dependency outcome. So is over-cooperation. The families who fare worst in these cases are the ones who assume that being articulate and accommodating will make the department go away. This is how we run it instead.

Beverly Hills referrals are typically assigned to the DCFS West Los Angeles Regional Office, which also covers Westwood, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Culver City, and the Santa Monica-adjacent Westside. The assignment is confirmed at first contact and shapes strategy from day one.
Dependency proceedings and records are confidential under Welfare and Institutions Code § 827, and Edelman hearings are closed to the public. The realistic exposure is through the custody case, through licensing boards if a finding is substantiated, and through a Child Abuse Central Index listing. Each of those is a defined risk we manage directly.
Only until a § 300 petition is filed. After that, the juvenile court has exclusive jurisdiction over custody and visitation under § 304, and its exit orders under § 362.4 become the family court's orders when the case closes. Closing the referral before a petition exists is the priority.
You do not have to permit entry without a warrant, court order, or emergency, and you should not sit for an interview before speaking with counsel. The department may interview household employees and school personnel without your consent; your attorney should know who they are and what they will be asked.
Family Code § 3027.1 allows the family court to impose monetary sanctions for a knowingly false child abuse accusation, and Penal Code § 11172 removes reporter immunity for knowingly false reports. Both are pursued after the dependency risk is resolved and on the record your dependency attorney builds.
If your child has been removed, the same day. The detention hearing is held by the end of the next judicial day after the petition is filed (§ 315), and we prepare the alternative-to-detention plan and relative placement the night before.
Whether a social worker just called, a safety plan is on the table, or your child has been removed, the first conversation is free and confidential. We will tell you in ten minutes whether you need representation.
