Mohammad Abuershaid discusses what sparked his interest in law, the importance of resilience through the law school application process, and what the next generation of lawyers should consider as they begin their journey into the legal field.
Abuershaid’s motivation for becoming a lawyer “stemmed from a desire to advocate for those who may not have a voice, particularly in challenging situations involving family and parental rights.” He knew he “wanted to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives, especially when facing the complexities of the legal system.”
When Abuershaid was asked about his journey to law school, he advised students interested in juvenile dependency law to “gain experience through internships with child welfare agencies or legal aid organizations.” He added that “participating in relevant workshops and networking with professionals in the field can also provide valuable insights and connections.”
Since the legal field is constantly evolving, Abuershaid also talked about some important fields that future lawyers should consider, “such as technology law, particularly in areas like data privacy and cybersecurity, and family law with a focus on child advocacy.” He also urges students to look into environmental law, as it “is becoming increasingly important as society addresses sustainability issues and the intersectionality between technology and natural resources.”
